Senator Daniel Inouye, one of Hawai‘i’s most respected leaders, was also a lifelong supporter of the Jewish people.

What many don’t know is that Hawai‘i shares a rich and meaningful history with the Jewish community. In the late 1800s, King David Kalākaua welcomed a Jewish confidant, Elias Rosenberg, who taught him Hebrew and gifted him a Torah and yad (Torah pointer). That Torah stayed in the royal household and is now housed at Temple Emanu‑El in Honolulu—an enduring symbol of Hawaii’s deep cultural respect and inclusiveness.

This legacy continued into the 20th century with Senator Daniel Inouye, one of Israel’s strongest allies in the U.S. Senate. He visited Israel numerous times and built lifelong friendships within the Jewish community, once saying, “I felt a kinship with the Jewish people—of survival, struggle, and hope.” His unwavering support helped strengthen ties between Hawai‘i and the Jewish diaspora.

So when we photograph a Jewish wedding here, under Maui’s open sky and golden light, it feels like more than a celebration. It’s a continuation of a legacy built on respect, shared values, and aloha 🤍🌿
